BIRMINGHAM, Ala (February 19, 2023) - The FIU track and field program concluded its run at the Conference USA Indoor Championships, earning a fifth place finish in Birmingham with 67.5 points - the most points ever scored by FIU in an indoor our outdoor Conference USA Championship event. The fifth place finish is also the highest team finish for the Panthers since joining the league.
Freshman
Celia Rifaterra highlighted the afternoon for FIU, earning a bronze in the high hump with a mark of 1.77m - FIU's first medalist in the event since Clarissa Cutliff in 2019.
Arielle Ho also picked up points for the Panthers in the event, finishing in fifth.
In the pentathlon,
Fabiola Declet and
Maika Cuenca earned seven points with a fifth and sixth place finish, respectively.
In the shot put, sophomore
Marqueisha Weeks mark of 14.69m was good for sixth place in the event.
On the track,
Daira Deicmane gave the Panthers two points with a seventh place finish in the finals of the 800, running 2:16.58. The DMR squad of
Hannah Buchanan, Brianna Carey,
Leonarda Farkas, and
Lisa Adjouadi placed seventh with a time of 12:39.19.
"We saw a lot of really strong performances over the course of the last two days," said FIU head coach
Ryan Heberling. "The future is bright here at FIU."
