MIAMI, Fla. – The No. 45 FIU women's tennis team cruised to a 4-0 win over C-USA foe North Texas on Sunday afternoon, earning the doubles point for the third straight match before clinching with singles wins from
Ekaterina Khairutdinova,
Salma Loudili and
Oyinlomo Quadre. The Panthers move to 5-3 overall with its first Conference USA win of the season, while North Texas drops to 9-4.
FIU secured the early advantage after wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 court, as the Mean Green won No. 3 doubles, 4-6, prior to
Ekaterina Khairutdinova and
Kamila Umarova corralling a 6-4 win over UNT's Adams and Morais, 6-4, on the No. 1 court.
Yasmine Kabbaj and
Oyinlomo Quadre then saved the day, storming back from down 4-0 in a tiebreak to come back for a 7-6 (5) win over UNT's Nformi and Malm to push their streak to five matches and secure the doubles point.
Holding the 1-0 advantage, the Panthers then tallied the first three singles victories decisively, seeing Khairutdinova slash UNT's Matilde Morais' 9-0 singles streak at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-2, to increase the lead at 2-0.
Junior
Salma Loudili tallied a straight-set win at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-1, over UNT's Adati, while
Oyinlomo Quadre delivered the clincher at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3, to bounce back in the win column and secure FIU's fifth win of the year.
UP NEXT
No. 45 FIU is back in action next Saturday, Mar. 4, in Miami when it hosts Maryland at the FIU Tennis Courts. First serve is slated for a noon start.
