Umarova Powers 35th-ranked Panthers to Sixth Straight Win over Columbia

Kamila Umarova recorded the clincher at No. 4 singles

MIAMI, Fla. – The No. 35 FIU women's tennis team prevailed at home over Columbia, 4-3, to remain undefeated at the FIU Tennis Courts and extend its win streak to six matches on Monday afternoon. The Lions stormed back in singles to knot the match at 3-3, though, FIU's Kamila Umarova came out on top in three sets at No. 4 singles to lift FIU to the 4-3 victory.

The Panthers own a 7-0 record at the FIU Tennis Courts, while moving to 10-3 overall on the season.

Columbia struck first to come out on the attack in doubles, snapping No. 56 Yasmine Kabbaj and Oyinlomo Quadre's nine-match win streak at No. 2 doubles, 3-6, though, No. 62 Ekaterina Khairutdinova and Kamila Umarova bounced back at the No. 1 spot, 6-3, over Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang to even the mark.

Salma Loudili and Katerina Mandelikova then pushed their five-match win streak at the No. 3 position to clinch the point, 7-5, over Winta Tewolde and Michelle Xu for the advantage heading into singles.

Mandelikova added her fifth win to increase FIU's lead, 2-0, after downing Columbia's Tewolde, 6-2, 6-1, while Oyinlomo Quadre won at No. 3 singles shortly after, 6-3, 6-1, to make for a 3-0 margin.

Yasmine Kabbaj saw her streak at No. 1 singles come to an end in a three-set clash, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, to Zhang, as Salma Loudili also fell at No. 6 singles, 6-7, 1-6, for a 3-2 lead.

Khairutdinova then fell in straight sets, 4-6, 4-6, to Julia Haynes to knot the match up at 3-3 with Kamila Umarova left in the third set of her match on the No. 4 court.

Trailing 2-1 after trading sets, 3-6, 6-4, Kamila rallied back from down a game to stun Columbia's Tiwolde, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, and secure FIU's 10th win of the season with the 4-3 final result.
