Baseball Takes Game Two against UAB, 13-5

Panthers hit three home runs against the Blazers

MIAMI (Mar. 25, 2023) – Baseball faced off against UAB in game two of the three-game series on Saturday beating the Blazers, 13-5.
 
Redshirt senior Mike Rosario had a big night at the plate going 3-4 with five RBI, two stolen bases and a home run. Junior Ryne Guida was also productive, going 3-5 with a RBI and a home run.
 
On the mound Orlando Hernandez stifled the Blazers in three innings of work, putting up three zeros as the Panthers fought back to tie the game.
 
The second-straight game saw the scoring get started in the second inning.
 
UAB got on the board first with two runs and the Panthers responded with an Alec Sanchez solo home run to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Blazers.
 
UAB added two more runs in the third to bring the score to 4-1.
 
In the fourth, Guida hit a solo home run to cut the UAB lead in half.
 
FIU's comeback efforts came to fruition in the fifth as they were able to tie the game.
 
Ruben Carpio picked up an RBI with a single down the left field line. A Dante Girardi groundout to the shortstop would push home the second run to make the score 4-4.
 
The Panthers put together an explosive bottom of the sixth to take the lead, 9-5.
 
The first three batters of the inning reached base with Roylan Quevedo giving FIU the lead with an RBI bases-loaded ground out.
 
Rosario capped off the inning by hitting a ball over the left center field wall.
 
Rosario would add to his RBI count in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single to center.
 
A wild pitch would score Quevedo and a double steal would see Rosario take home to push the lead to 13-5 headed into the top of the eighth.
 
Cameron Knox would cap off a winning outing with a with two strike outs in the top of the ninth to secure the win.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers close out the series against UAB on Sunday March 26 with first pitch set for 12 p.m. Fans can also watch the game live on C-USA TV.
