MIAMI (Mar. 3, 2023) – Baseball opened a four-game series against Harvard on Friday night taking the game, 4-3, after a 10th-inning walk-off single by junior
Adrian Figueroa.
Figueroa went a perfect 4-4 with a walk and the winning RBI against the Crimson. Redshirt junior
Henry Wallen continued to have a hot bat, going 1-3 with two RBI, pushing his total to seven over the last two games.
It was a complete effort by the FIU pitchers on the night. Redshirt Senior
Christian Santana opened the game with three clean innings, striking out five along the way. Fellow redshirt senior
CJ McKennitt picked up the win after shutting the Crimson out in the top of the 10th.
The Panthers came out firing, scoring two in the bottom of the first.
Four straight hits in the inning would see
Ryne Guida push home the first run and Wallen cap the inning with a sacrifice fly as the Panther took a 2-0 advantage.
FIU went up 3-0 in the bottom of the third after Wallen hit a grounder up the middle to score sophomore
Marcus O'Malley. It marked Wallen's second RBI of the night.
Harvard would score three unanswered runs to bring the game level after putting up one run in the fifth, seventh and ninth innings to force extra innings.
In the bottom of the 10th inning Figueroa stepped up to the plate with two on and with two outs on the board. He would go down 0-2 before battling back to a 2-2 count.
Figueroa then flared a ball into the left-center gap to score junior
Dante Girardi from second base and win the game, 4-3.
