No. 36 FIU Downs Houston, Moves Streak to Nine Matches

Panthers extend streak with first true road win of the season

HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 36 FIU women's tennis team extended its win streak to nine matches on Thursday, collecting its first true road win of the season at Houston, 4-0, to move to 13-3 overall on the season. The Panthers won the doubles point for the 11th straight match, while seeing Salma Loudili, Yasmine Kabbaj and Oyinlomo Quadre clinch singles wins all in straight sets.

The nine-match streak matches its longest streak from last season, as a win over No. 64 USF on Saturday would mark FIU's longest streak since the 2020-21 season (12 wins).

The Panthers nabbed their 11th straight doubles point as the advantage has proven lethal for FIU entering singles action, seeing Katerina Mandelikova and Salma Loudili extend their streak to eight matches at the No. 3 spot, while 56th-ranked Yasmine Kabbaj and Oyinlomo Quadre added their third in a row to clinch.

Loudili and Mandelikova collected a 6-2 victory over UH's Maria Dzemeshkevich and Gabriela Cortes for their 12th win of the year, as Kabbaj and Quadre replicated their result on Court Two with a 6-2 decision over Sonya Kovalenko and Elena Trencheva for their team-high 13th doubles win.

Junior Salma Loudili added her team-high 11th dual singles win to kick off the singles rout, dropping Trencheva in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, while Yasmine Kabbaj finished just moments later at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Dzemeshkevich to erupt for the 3-0 advantage with first-set leads on three of the four remaining courts.

Oyinlomo Quadre and Kamila Umarova both sat on the brink of winning each of their matches at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, though, Quadre would go on to seal the deal in straight sets over Sophie Schouten, 6-4, 6-3, to clinch the victory while Umarova led over Kovalenko, 6-1, 5-3.

Quadre moves her streak in singles to eight matches upon the win while also notching her 10th singles win overall this season.
