MIAMI, Fla. - The 35th-ranked FIU women's tennis team notched its third straight win on Tuesday, dropping Michigan State, 4-1, at the FIU Tennis Courts. The Panthers move to 7-3 on the season and remain undefeated at 4-0 on its home court.
Prior to Tuesday's match, FIU was elevated within the top 40 of the ITA National Rankings to No. 35 after a top-40 win over then-No. 36 Maryland on Saturday. Two Panthers tandems received national rankings also, as FIU's No. 2 duo of
Yasmine Kabbaj and
Oyinlomo Quadre were tabbed No. 56 in the nation, followed by No. 1 duo of
Ekaterina Khairutdinova and
Kamila Umarova at No. 62.
The Panthers opened the match notching its fourth straight doubles point, as
Katerina Mandelikova and
Salma Loudili captured a 6-0 rout on the No. 3 court over Nicole Conard and Juliette Nask, while No. 56 Kabbaj and Quadre corralled the point for their seventh straight at the No. 2 position, 6-4, over Marley Lambert and Dagmar Zdrubecka.
Kabbaj and Quadre move to 8-2 on the season at No. 2 doubles, while Mandelikova and Loudili add their second straight win at 6-2 from the No. 3 position.
Salma Loudili pushed the margin to 2-0 after winning in straight sets at No. 6 singles over Issey Purser, 6-2, 7-6, while
Yasmine Kabbaj tallied her third straight victory at the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-2, over Liisa Vehvilainen to push the score to 3-0.
The Spartans earned a point at No. 2 singles, seeing Khairutdinova fall 3-6, 4-6, to Ayshe Can, though, Oyinlomom Quadre would seal things at No.3 singles over Marley Lambert, 7-5, 6-1, for the 4-1 victory.
