Comeback Comes Up Just Short as Baseball Falls to Louisiana Tech, 7-5

Panthers scored four unanswered to close out the game

RUSTON, La. (April 14, 2023) – The FIU baseball team faced off against Louisiana Tech on Friday night, coming up short of a comeback victory, 7-5.

Alec Sanchez was electric against LA Tech going 3-4 with two RBI, a home run and three runs scored.

The Panthers would get on the board first, going up, 1-0, in the top of the second.

Alec Sanchez led the inning off with a single up the middle. A double to deep left field by Adrian Figueroa would score Sanchez from first, who hustled around the pads and beat out a close play at home plate.

The Bulldogs would not be down long, taking the lead in the next half inning, 2-1.

LA Tech was able to load the bases with no outs and scored two runs on sacrifice fly outs by Adrius Myers and Walker Burchfield.

The Bulldogs extended their lead in the third inning, adding two more runs.

Brody Drost hit a ball deep to center field for a RBI triple and Jorge Corona scored the second run after hitting into a fielder's choice to score the man at third.

After a scoreless fourth inning LA Tech would push its advantage to 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth.

Dorst would deliver a two-run single through the right side, with the third run scoring on a Philip Matulia fielder's choice.

The Panthers started to mount a comeback in the top of the sixth.

Mike Rosario smacked a solo home run over the right-center field wall. Two batters later, Sanchez sent a ball to the same spot for a two-run home run, bringing the score to 7-4.

The comeback continued for the Panthers as they went into the ninth down three.

Sanchez led the final inning with a double to left field. After a Ryne Guida strike out, Adrian Figueroa hit a double of his own to put two runners in scoring position with only one out.

The next batter was Henry Wallen who scored Sanchez from third with a sacrifice fly, cutting the LA Tech lead to 7-5.

Unfortunately, the Panthers could not complete the comeback, falling to the Bulldogs, 7-5.
