Baseball Loses to Louisiana Tech in High Scoring Series Finale

The two teams combined for 23 hits and 15 runs

RUSTON, La. (April 16, 2023) – The FIU baseball team closed out its series with Louisiana Tech on Sunday dropping a high scoring series finale to the Bulldogs, 10-5.
 
Alec Sanchez had another solid outing against the Bulldogs going 2-4 with two RBI and a home run. The home run was his third of the series, leaving Louisiana with a home run in all three games.
 
LA Tech took an early lead, scoring six unanswered runs to open the game.
 
In the first, the Bulldogs' Jorge Corona hit a double to left field to drive in a run. In the fourth inning Will Safford and Logan McLeod pushed home runs with sacrifice fly balls and Dalton Davis scored a third with a double to left field.
 
In the third, two Bulldog home runs by Corona and Ethan Bates would put them ahead, 6-0.
 
The Panthers would get on the board in the top of the fourth.
 
Sanchez hit a solo home run, his third of the series, and Henry Wallen hit a RBI double to make the score 6-2.
 
Louisiana Tech built on its lead in the bottom of the fourth when Davis hit his second RBI double of the game to put the Bulldogs up, 7-2.
 
Sanchez drove in his second run of the game in the fifth, this time with a sacrifice fly to cut the LA Tech advantage to 7-3.
 
LA Tech added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. A Walker Burchfield two-run home run and a McLeod RBI triple pushed the score to 10-3.
 
The FIU bats stayed hot in the seventh, cutting the Louisiana Tech advantage to 10-5.
 
Craig Palidar came into the game as a pinch hitter with a man on and promptly delivered a no-doubt home run, his first hit as a Panther.
 
The scoring would end there with Louisiana Tech winning, 10-5.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers return to FIU Baseball Stadium on Wednesday April 19 when they host No. 15 Florida Gulf Coast. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Fans can watch the game live on C-USA TV.
