CORAL GABLES, Fla (April 8, 2023) - The FIU track and field team completed day two of the Hurricane Alumni Invitational , highlighted by a victory from
Desmond Dorceus in the discus and
Eliseo Torres in the 3000.
Dorceus earned the win with a mark of 16.26m, to place first in a field of 14 competitors. He also placed third in the discus on Friday. Torres, in his first 3000 of the season, ran 9:01.31 for the win.
Ania San Roman Lopez, running unattached, finished first in the women's 3000.
Freshman
Cole Crkvenac continued his standout freshman campaign with a second place finish in the javelin - throwing 65.01m on his final attempt.
Raynell Chambers reset his FIU freshman 200 record - running 21.04 to place sixth in a 41-person field. He also placed fifth in the 400, nearly resetting his own freshman record in that event as well.
In the decathlon, senior
Jason Rotger set a lifetime best in the pole vault with a mark of 4.45, only bested in the event by former Oregon All-American and fifth-place finisher in the US Olympic Trials, Joe Delgado who cleared 4.55.
The Panthers will be off for a week before traveling to Atlanta to compete at the Georgia Tech Invite April 21-22.
