DENTON, Texas (May 12, 2023) -
Fabiola Declet's program record in the heptathlon and
Michaelle Valentin's bronze medal in the hammer highlighted day two of the Conference USA Outdoor Championships for FIU.
Declet's personal best of 4,985 points in the heptathlon broke Bejai Fray's mark from the Conference USA Championships in 2016. Declet earned a fourth place finish with the performance over the course of Thursday and Friday.
Valentin saw her second trip to the postseason podium of her sophomore season after taking a silver at the indoor championships in the weight throw. Valentin threw 58.85m in the hammer to take third place.
"We're very proud of Fabiola and Michaelle," said FIU head coach
Ryan Heberling. "They've set the tone for us here this weekend, and a program record at conference is a memorable accomplishment."

In the decathlon,
Jason Rotger placed seventh in his final entry in the multis event for FIU.
Gabby Bryan finished fifth in the hammer,
Eliseo Torres ninth in the 10000, and
Emilie Christiansen and
Delilah Ayan placed 12th and 15th, respectively, in their 10000.
Field events resume Saturday with the men's discus at 1 p.m. CT. Running prelims begin with the women's 1,500 meter at 5:30 p.m. The day concludes with the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, with the women starting at 9 p.m.
Sunday's final day of action begins at 1 p.m. with the women's shot put. The running finals will start at 6 p.m. with the men's 4x100m relay. An awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the 4x400m relay.
