Women's Soccer Unveils 2023 Schedule

Panthers to host 10 matches at FIU Soccer Stadium this fall

7/12/2023 11:47:00 AM

MIAMI, Fla. – The FIU women's soccer program will play host to 10 matches at FIU Soccer Stadium as part of its 17-game slate for the 2023 campaign, as announced by head women's soccer coach Jonathan Garbar on Wednesday.

"The upcoming 23'-24' season is one that the entire program, and its loyal supporters, could not be more excited about and committed to," said Garbar of the upcoming season. "After a tremendously competitive and successful spring season, the return of the largest group of student-athletes FIU has enjoyed in recent history, and effectively recruiting the kind of players and people we meticulously targeted to join us on our journey, we are full of confidence as we approach the next phase of our program's development."

The Panthers will travel for a total of seven road matches in 2023, while hosting four Conference USA matchups in Miami, including a pair of home tilts against new CUSA members Liberty and Jacksonville State.

"We are honored to welcome our newest competitive partners in the conference, thrilled to have our non-conference schedule laced with budding rivalries and embrace the opportunity to test the level of progress our program has earned over the past two years," added Garbar.

"But ultimately, what inspires and motivates us most is the opportunity to continue to attack our mental, physical, and spiritual development, and competitive aspirations, together. August 1st can't come soon enough."

The Panthers open the season on the road for a pair of matches at Alcorn State (Aug. 18) and Nicholls State (Aug. 20) before hosting Jacksonville in Miami on Aug. 24 for their 2023 home opener at FIU Soccer Stadium.

FIU then splits a pair of matches on the road and home to close the month of August, traveling to Mississippi State (Aug. 27) prior to returning home for a contest against Stetson in Miami (Aug. 31).

The Panthers enjoy a four-game homestand to start the month of September, hosting Louisiana (Sept. 3), Miami (Sept. 7) and FGCU (Sept. 10) to close non-conference action prior to opening CUSA play with a matchup against UTEP at FIU Soccer Stadium on Sept. 17.

FIU then travels to face new CUSA foe Sam Houston State (Sept. 21) before returning home for a contest against FAU (Sept. 24), while also splitting its next two league matches at Western Kentucky (Sept. 29) and hosting Liberty in Miami on Oct. 7.

The Panthers visit New Mexico State on Oct. 12 before returning to Miami to host its final two home matches of the year in Jacksonville State on Oct. 15 and Louisiana Tech on Oct. 22. FIU will then close the regular season in Murfreesboro, Tenn., at Middle Tennessee on Oct. 27.

The CUSA championships are scheduled to take place from Nov. 1-5, hosted by Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La.
