MIAMI – Former FIU standout signal caller and reigning USFL Most Valuable Player Alex McGough has been signed to a contract by the NFL's Green Bay Packers, it was officially announced by the organization on Wednesday.
McGough, who earned the contract following a workout with the Packers on Tuesday, is coming off a season where he helped guide the Birmingham Stallions to the 2023 USFL Championship and was honored as the league's most valuable player after tossing 20 touchdown passes and totaling 2,105 passing yards and a 67.4% completion rate.
McGough added 403 rushing yards and five TDs on the ground and only threw five interceptions. He led the league in passing touchdowns and ranked third in passing yards.
During postseason action, McGough continued to elevate his play as he accounted for a total of nine touchdowns and completed nearly 70 percent of his pass attempts while leading the Stallions to the USFL crown.
McGough (2014-17) currently sits atop FIU career leaders with 65 career touchdown passes and is the second leading passer in FIU history with 9,091 yards.
He was originally a seventh-round selection by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has also had previous NFL stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans.
