BOCA RATON, Fla (September 1, 2023) - The FIU cross country team opened up its 2023 campaign Friday evening at the FAU XC Invite, held at South County Regional Park. 

The women's team earned a 13th place place finish, led by Barbara Hernandez who finished with a time of 19:44. 

The men finished were led by Jeshua Osorio, leading the Panthers with a time of 17:01 in his first race with FIU. 

"This was a solid start to our season and a chance to get a lot of our young runners their first taste of college cross country," said head distance coach Jermaine Felix. "It's an honest course and a good gauge of the progress that's been made over the summer." 

Luana Kopp, Sofia Bonni, Jenna Rosado, and Lana Kish rounded up the top five for the women, while Ryan Jones, Dennis Moreno, and Joseph Coyle were the final competitors for the men. 

FIU will now have a bye week before competing at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational on September 15, held at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville.
