Seattle, WA. - The FIU women's volleyball team (2-8, 0-0 CUSA) went 0-3 in the Husky Invitational dropping its matches against UNLV, Memphis, and Washington inside the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
VS UNLV
The Rebels (4-3, 0-0 MWC) won in straight sets (18-25, 18-25, 14-25) against the Panthers.
Outside hitter
Syra Tanchin led the Panthers with seven kills and was second on the team with seven digs. Libero
Amber Beals paced FIU with 12 digs and notched one service ace to add to her team lead (11).
VS MEMPHIS
The Tigers (3-6, 0-0 AAC) won a hard fought match against FIU that went the distance five sets (18-25, 25-15, 25-23, 22-25, 10-15).
For the first time this season, the Panthers had four players in one match record double digit kills while three players notched their first double-double of the season.
Jade Sadeiko led FIU with 14 kills and chipped in 10 digs while
Syra Tanchin was second on the team in kills (13) and digs (14).
Travel Morris was third on FIU with a season high 12 kills and led the team with seven blocks. Rounding off the four Panthers with double digit kills was
Mackenzie Morgan with 10. Libero
Mandi Morioka established a new career high 24 digs while setter
Savannah Cook set a new season high in assists against with 38 and pitched in 12 digs.
VS WASHINGTON
The Huskies (7-1, 0-0 PAC 12) won in four sets against the Panthers (21-25, 26-24, 26-28, 12-25).
Sadeiko was the kills leader for FIU in two of the three matches played this week and recorded a season high 15 against Washington. After the Husky Invitational, Sadeiko has notched double-digit kills in five of the 10 matches played this season.
Outside hitter
Mackenzie Morgan tied with Sadeiko with 15 kills and recorded 32 kills in the whole tournament. Morgan is also second on the Panthers with 76 kills this season averaging 2.30 per set.
Against the Huskies,
Mandi Morioka posted 18 digs marking the first time in her career in which she recorded double digit digs in back-to-back matches.
Savannah Cook followed up her 38 assists performance against Memphis with 31 against the Huskies. This is the first time this season in which Cook recorded 30 or more assists in back-to-back matches.
UP NEXT
The Panthers return back to Miami next week and get ready for their long-awaited home opener as they host the 305 Challenge. FIU will first take on Jacksonville University on Friday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. ET and play Stetson that same day at 7 p.m. ET. The Panthers will wrap up the tournament against Indiana on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. ET. All three matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
