No. 7 Men’s Soccer Heads North to Take on No. 14 UCF

The Panthers look to defeat first ranked opponent of 2023

MIAMI (Sep. 4, 2023) – The No. 7 ranked FIU men's soccer team opens the week on the road with a match against No. 14 University of Central Florida on Tuesday, September 5.
 
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and it will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
ROAD WARRIORS
The Panthers were strong on the road in 2022, finishing with a 5-3-1 record away from FIU Soccer Stadium. They also defeated three ranked teams on the road last season in No. 25 St. John's, No. 13 UNC and No. 14 Charlotte.
 
FIU opened the season on the road with a 2-1 victory over then (RV) Oregon State.
 
THE BIGGER THEY ARE
The Panthers faced off against seven ranked opponents in 2022, going 5-2 against those teams.
 
FIU defeated a top 10 team in then No. 10 Tulsa by a convincing scoreline of 3-0.
 
The Panthers also defeated a Power 5 opponent in then No. 13 UNC, taking down the Tar Heels, 2-1, in Chapel Hill.
 
STURDY
Goalkeeper Tyler Hogan and the FIU defense have been stellar to start the season.
 
Through three matches they have allowed only one goal, a 0.37 shot percentage and posted two shutouts.
 
The Panthers have limited their last two opponents to under 10 total shots.
 
Through three matches, Hogan has made 13 saves, including turning away a penalty shot.
 
INTERNATIONAL
FIU embraces its name with a truly international roster.
 
This season's Panthers have players from 15 different countries.
 
The USA leads the way with four players. Denmark, Mexico and France each have three representatives. Portugal, Japan and Germany have two representatives each.
 
SCOUTING UCF
The Golden Knights have opened the season 3-0 and are coming off a victory over NC State.
 
Freshman Heiskanen has been the UCF danger man to open the season. The midfielder currently leads Central Florida in points with five, on two goals and an assist.
 
Sophomore Juanvi Munoz returns as the Golden Knights top goalkeeper after starting 13 matches as a freshman. He has made six saves in three starts this season.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers are back at home on Friday September 8 to take on No. 19 New Hampshire. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the match can be streamed on ESPN+.
