FIU opens conference competition coming off a 2-1 record at the 305 challenge, picking up wins over the Jacksonville Dolphins and Stetson Hatters.
Outside hitter,
Jade Sadeiko paced FIU with 37 kills combined from the three matches. She is currently leading the Panthers with 133 kills averaging 3.02 per set.
Sadeiko was the kills leader for FIU the win over Stetson and recorded a season high 19 against the Hatters.. On the season, Sadeiko has notched double-digit kills in six of the 13 matches played this season.
Libero
Mandi Morioka appeared and started in all three matches on the weekend putting up 50 digs. She posted 22 digs against the Hatters and currently a five-game stretch with ten or more digs.
Rounding out the balanced offensive effort for FIU is junior,
Mackenzie Morgan. The outside hitter recorded 30 kills in last week's action. Against Stetson, Morgan was second on the team with 16 kills. . Morgan is also second on the Panthers with 106 kills this season averaging 2.47 per set. Opposite hitter
Yasso Amin made her mark with 26 kills including a team-leading 12 in the victory over Jacksonville.
Sophomore setter
Savannah Cook stepped up for the Panthers over the weekend recording 108 assists, from the three matches combined. Cook set a new career-high in assists against STetson with 50. She has notched four games with 30 or more assists.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Louisiana Tech is 5-7 on the season coming off 1-2 weekend in the "Battle For The Boot" held in Natchitoches, Louisiana, picking up a win over Southern, but dropping contests against Northwestern State and Southeastern.
The offense is led by middle blocker Jailen Hurley, who leads the team in kills (93), while Sydney Jackwin tallies in second with 81.
On the defensive side, liberio Mackenzie Johnson has led the way with 217 digs, combining for 38 over the past weekend. In addition, Johnson become the fastest Bulldog to reach 1,000 digs in her career in just 221 sets.
The Bulldogs placed ninth in the CUSA preseason poll after finishing the 2022 season with a 11-18 campaign.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will hit the road to Hunstville, Texas to take on the Sam Houston Bearkats on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. EST and Saturday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. EST.
