(RV) Men's Soccer Hits the Road for AAC Play at Memphis

FIU comes off a 5-1 victory vs Temple

MIAMI – The (RV) FIU Men's Soccer team hits the road to Memphis, Tennessee for a road battle against the Memphis Tigers on Saturday night.

FIU (3-2-2) comes off a dominating victory last Saturday, Sep. 16 taking down the Temple Owls, 5-1, to begin American Athletic Conference play.

The Panthers shined in all 90 minutes of action with five different players entering the goal column including juniors Eduardo Mustre, Bernardo Dos Santos Monterio, seniors Simon Afrifa, Matthias Lavenant, and Fumiya Shiraishi,

The offense is led by Mustre, who leads the team in goals (4) and points (9) in his first season donning the Blue & Gold. 

Newcomer Kasper Skraep has shined with a pair of goals on the season and four points. 

Veterans Dos Santos Monterio and Shirashi have been impactful with 33 shots combined on the early campaign. 

On the backline, Owen Travis leads the team on defense having played in a total of 609 minutes on the pitch. 

LAST TIME OUT 

Heading into Saturday's contest, FIU is 4-5 against the Tigers, coming off a pair of wins in the 2022 campaign over Memphis.

FIU sealed a 3-2 win on Oct. 1, 2022 where Dos Santos Monterio notched the game winner at home.

The Panthers then took down Memphis, 1-0, in the AAC Semifinals, when forward Stephen Afrifa helped send FIU to the AAC Championship, eventually winners of the tournament.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Memphis started the season 4-0-1, before going 0-1-1 in their past two matches, losing to #16 SMU, 2-1, on Sep. 16 to begin AAC play.

The offense is spearheaded by junior Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos, who leads all of the conference in goals (6), points (13) and shots (31). Senior Jackson Kim stands second on the team in goals with three.

In net, junior Flannan Riley has played in five matches with a 0.85 goals against average notching 17 saves.

INTERNATIONAL 
FIU embraces its name with a truly international roster. This season's Panthers have players from 15 different countries. 
 
The USA leads the way with four players. Denmark, Mexico and France each have three representatives. Portugal, Japan and Germany have two representatives each. 
 
UP NEXT 
The Panthers head back home for a in-state showdown against the South Florida Bulls on Friday, Sep. 29.

First kick is set for 7 p.m. EST and can be streamed on ESPN+.
