MIAMI – FIU Beach Volleyball head coach
Terri Del Conte has selected
Kelly Raimon (Schumacher) to join the Panthers' staff as an assistant coach, it was officially announced on Wednesday.
Raimon (Schumacher) arrives in Miami following a six-year professional beach volleyball career, which followed a successful run as a player and coach in the WNBA, following a standout collegiate career with the University of Connecticut women's basketball program.
"Kelly brings high-level experience from the college and pro levels," Del Conte said. "She is a great representation of what we embody here at FIU Beach, she knows how the game is played at an elite level and is a strong female role model. I am very excited to be working together with her."
Raimon (Schumacher) played professional beach volleyball from 2010-16, at the international level which saw her compete in the FIVB (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball), Norceca Volleyball Confederation, AVP Volleyball, Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series, NVL and EVP Tour Series.
She posted 12 consecutive first place finishes on the EVP Tour Series and posted a third place showing at the Norceca Mexico International Beach Tournament.
Raimon (Schumacher) has served as a beach volleyball skills coach since 2015, while organizing and conducting group practices and skill training sessions with both professional players and aspiring international and collegiate athletes.
She has served as an assistant coach with three WNBA franchises, including her most recent stop with the Dallas Wings in 2021-22. Raimon (Schumacher) was previously on the staffs with the New York Liberty (2020) and Las Vegas Aces (2018-19). In addition, she held the title of Player Development Coach and Advanced Scout with the Chicago Sky in 2017.
On the hardwood, Raimon (Schumacher) was a standout player both professionally and collegiately and was a member of a pair of WNBA Championship teams during per career (Phoenix Mercury, 2007 & Detroit Shock (2008).
She competed for the Indiana Fever, Phoenix Mercury, New York Liberty and Detroit Shock in a career that spanned from 2001-2013, and also included international playing experience in Russia, Turkey, China, Spain, Greece, Israel and South Korea. Raimon (Schumacher) was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the Spanish League in 2006.
Collegiately, Raimon (Schumacher) played basketball at perennial power UConn, where she helped lead the Huskies to a pair of NCAA Final Four appearances and the 2000 NCAA National Championship. She was named as the NCAA's National Championship Player of the Game in 2000 and set the NCAA Women's Final Four record with nine blocked shots.
She also won a gold medal with USA Basketball's Jone's Cup Team in 2000.
Raimon (Schumacher) graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in communications.
