Seattle, WA - The FIU women's volleyball team (2-5, 0-0 C-USA) is back on the road participating in the Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington from Friday, Sept. 8 through Sunday, Sept. 10 inside the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The Panthers will take on UNLV and Memphis on Friday and finish the tournament against Washington on Sunday.

The Panthers were on the road last weekend in the UCF Tournament and came out with a 1-3 record securing a victory against Alabama State in straight sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-20).
Outside hitter,
Jade Sadeiko paced FIU with 39 kills combined from the four matches. She is currently leading the Panthers with 62 kills averaging 2.82 per set while hitting .288.
Sadeiko was the kills leader for FIU in three of the four matches played last week and recorded a season high 13 against Alabama State. Against Wake Forest in the UCF Challenge finale, Sadeiko led the Panthers with 10 kills marking the third match already in the early season with double digit kills.
Libero
Amber Beals has appeared in all seven matches this season and leads FIU with 66 digs averaging 3.00 per set while posting 10 aces thus far.
Rounding out the balanced offensive effort for FIU is graduate student transfer,
Syra Tanchin. The outside hitter recorded 25 kills in last week's action and is third on the Panthers with 44 this season averaging 2.00 per set.
After last week's performance,
Gianna Tagoa'i was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week as marking the second time in as many weeks that she earns this award.
Tagoa'i racked up 112 assists, 23 digs, and four kills in four matches played, starting in all of them. Against UCF on August 31, Tagoa'i recorded a team-high 22 assist and notched four digs. Against Alabama State, Tagoa'i recorded a new career high in assists with 35 and was second on the Panthers with seven digs. She broke her previous record in assists (30) established on August 25 against Lamar.
Tagoa'i followed up that performance against Mississippi State the same day with 31 assists and four digs, marking the first time in her collegiate career in which she recorded 30 or more assists in back-to-back matches. To close out the tournament over the weekend, Tagoa'i paced the Panthers in both assists (24) and digs (8) against Wake Forest on Sept. 3. Tagoa'i ranks first among all CUSA freshman and fifth in the entire league in total assists (164) and assists per set (8.20).
SCOUTING UNLV
UNLV is 2-3 to start the season and has already faced two Pac-12 teams, defeating Colorado in the season opener, 3-1, and falling against Utah, 1-3.
A year ago, UNLV had an excellent 26-5 season and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, falling in the first round against Washington State. The Rebels were the Mountain West Conference preseason favorites this year.
Senior Isabel Martin is the reigning MWC Player of the Year and currently leads the Rebels with 102 kills this season averaging 4.43 per set. Martin had 28 kills on .658 hitting in their last win over Colorado. Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos was also First Team All-MWC last year. Senior setter, Arian Fafard, paces UNLV with 196 assists while posting nine service aces so far for the team lead.

SCOUTING MEMPHIS
Memphis, members of the American Athletic Conference, went 18-15 a year ago and come into week three with a 2-4 record. The Tigers' two wins came in their first two matches over Alcorn State and Samford. Tabytha Toelke is leading the attack with 75 kills this season averaging 3.00 kills per set.
Not too far behind Toelke is right side hitter Reilly Briggs with 73 kills averaging 2.52 per set. Alexis Lewis is hitting .349 with 1.73 kills per set and Abigail Schlueter has an impressive 4.91 digs per set.

SCOUTING WASHINGTON
Since dropping a tough five set opener the Huskies have won four straight matches and continue to receive votes in the AVCA top-25. Despite working five new players into the rotation, the Huskies have come together quickly as a unit, hitting .242 on the season and holding their opponents to a .171 mark. Washington ranks seventh in the NCAA with 2.47 aces per set, and is averaging an identical 2.47 blocks per set despite a nearly entirely new group guarding the net.
Three different Huskies are avraging at least 3.00 kills per set: Audra Wilmes (3.00), May Pertofsky (3.22), and Madi Endsley (3.29). In her first season running the offense as starting setter, Molly Wilson has 8.16 assists per set and three double-doubles. Lauren Bays has also gotten off to a great start through two weeks, digging 4.53 per set, a career-best rate.

UP NEXT
The Panthers return back to Miami next week and get ready for their long-awaited home opener as they host the 305 Challenge. FIU will first take on Jacksonville University on Friday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. ET and play Stetson that same day at 7 p.m. ET. The Panthers will wrap up the tournament against Indiana on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. ET.
