MIAMI – The No. 7 FIU Men's Soccer Team was unable to rally after allowing a pair of early goals as it dropped a match for the first time this season by the margin of 2-1 on Friday night in Miami.
No. 24 New Hampshire (3-1-1) recorded a pair of goals in span of just over four minutes early in the first half to claim the lead. Bilal Kamal scored the first tally of the contest with a blast that found the bottom right of the goal at the 10:40 mark of the first half.
The Wildcats increased their advantage to 2-0 four minutes and five seconds later when a shot was redirected for a score at the 14:45 mark of the initial 45 minutes.
FIU (2-1-2) got on the board on a successful penalty kick by Eduardo Maustre at 18:52 of the first, his third goal of the season.
The two teams played to a scoreless second half that saw the Panthers outshoot New Hampshire 5-1 over the final 45 minutes. For the match, FIU led in shots 7-5.
The showdown was a rematch of last season's epic opening round NCAA Tournament match which saw the Panthers outlast the Wildcats in penalties 10-9.
Friday's match also marked the third meeting between the programs over the last two seasons.
