AKRON, Ohio – The No. 11 FIU Men's Soccer Team (2-2-2) was unable to rally after allowing a pair of early goals as it dropped a match for the first time on the road by the margin of 2-0 on Monday night against the No. 5 Akron Zips.
Akron (5-0-1) recorded a pair of goals in span of just over six minutes early in the first half to claim the lead. Jason Shokalook scored in the 3rd minute on a breakaway
Zips increased their advantage, 2-0, five minutes and 58 seconds later Shokalook added in his second goal of the night at the 9:07 mark of the initial 45 minutes.
The Panthers outshot Akron 14-12 on the night with junior Eduardo Mustre leading FIU in shots with five.
Monday's match also marked the second meeting between the programs over the last two seasons.

The Panthers will return home to begin conference play against the Temple Owls.
