FIU Women's Basketball (14-6, 5-1 CUSA) saw an eight-game winning streak snapped in their most recent game against Middle Tennessee. It was their first loss in 46 days.
Middle Tennessee (16-4, 6-0 CUSA) had the hot hand for all 40 minutes, shooting 62.9% of their three-point attempts and 59.6% of their field goals overall. The Blue Raiders found a big lead early, in part due to hitting their first four out of four three pointers. Despite seeing themselves down early, FIU didn't falter, winning the second and third quarters with a positive point differential.Â
Graduate student Kaliah Henderson put up her best game of the season on Saturday, scoring a season high 26 points on an efficient 12-18 shooting. The guard had 17 points on 8-9 shooting just at the half, and accounted for 42% of the Panthers' overall offense. The Tampa, native added on a rebound and a steal to complete her afternoon. Henderson is second on the team and 12th in the conference in steals per game at 1.5.
A pair of sophomores also scored double digits in the contest, with Angena Belloso and Mya Kone putting up 12 and 10 points respectively. Belloso added on four rebounds, one assist and one steal to complete her day, while Kone had an additional eight rebounds, one block and a steal to finish off her afternoon. This marks the seventh time in nine games that the Panthers' leading scorer has put up double-digit points in a game.
Scouting Louisiana Tech
LA Tech Women's basketball (8-13, 2-4 CUSA) is coming off a 66-64 loss to New Mexico State on Saturday, January 27th for their fourth loss in five games.
The Bulldogs currently sit at seventh in the Conference USA standings, on 62.9 points per game, which also places seventh in the conference. At 63.2 points per game, they allow the fifth fewest points per game in the conference. LA Tech dishes out the third most assists per game, with 13.62 a game, as well as the fifth most steals per game at 7.71.
The Bulldogs are led by senior Larr Anna Roberson, putting up 12.5 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game, both of which are most on LA Tech. At 51.6%, the forward places third in the conference in field goal percentage, as well as fourth in the conference in free-throw percentage, shooting it from the charity stripe at a 84.1% clip. Guard Salma Bates is also averaging double-digits, putting up 10.9 points per game, as well as 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game, the latter two of which leads the team.
This will be FIU and Louisiana Tech's first matchup since March 2, 2023, where LA Tech prevailed by score of 69-62.
