MIAMI – The FIU men's soccer program came up short to Florida Atlantic on a rainy Sunday night, falling 2-1 at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the game came alive in the second, with both teams combining for three goals.
FIU (4-5-4, 2-2-1 AAC) took the lead in the 72nd minute when
Diego Castillo found the back of the net, giving the Panthers a 1-0 advantage and his second goal of the season. However, Florida Atlantic responded quickly, scoring twice within a two-minute span to secure the victory.
The Owls' first goal came in the 80th minute on a penalty kick, followed by the game-winner in the 82nd minute.
In the 30th minute, as both teams were reduced to 10 men after receiving red cards, including
Eduardo Mustre.
FIU outshot FAU, 16-11, with seniors
Mathys Lefebvre and
Diego Castillo each recording three shots.
In goal,
Beltran Fernandez made his debut for the Panthers, playing 81 minutes and registering one save.

FIU hits the road for a final time in the regular season serving a trip to Philadelphia, Pa. taking on the Temple Owls on Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+.
