MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- FIU's volleyball program was defeated in four sets by Middle Tennessee in Conference USA (CUSA) action on the road on Friday evening.
FIU (2-14, 0-3 CUSA) won the second set 25-17 over MTSU (5-10, 1-2 CUSA), but fell in sets one, three and four to the Blue Raiders. Anna Feldkamp and Kira Givans each had 14 kills to lead the Panther offense. Kaylee Musick dished out 39 assists as FIU totaled 47 kills, hitting .206.
Mandi Morioka collected 22 digs to anchor the defense. Courtney O'Brien and Colby Lane also had double-digit digs with 10 each. As a team, FIU had 8.0 total blocks. Travel Morris, Givans and Feldkamp each had four individually. Morris also had six kills on nine attempts, hitting .667.
In the first set, the Panthers trailed 11-5, but ripped off a five-point run to even the score at 16-all. A kill from Feldkamp put FIU up 18-17 before MTSU scored the next five tallies. Morris pulled the Panthers within one down 23-22, but MTSU finished off set one, 25-23.
FIU took the early lead in set two as Feldkamp put the Panthers up 9-5. Givans helped FIU down the stretch with a kill to go ahead 18-14. The Panthers finished the frame in style with four-straight points to win handedly, 25-17.
A Musick service ace put the Panthers up 11-10 in the third set as both sides battled for momentum. Both teams traded points down the stretch, but Feldkamp gave FIU an 25-24 lead with a kill. The Blue Raiders seized the set with the final three points to win 27-25.
In the fourth and final set, Feldkamp once again put FIU ahead with a kill at 9-8. MTSU ran off a 17-9 run to finish off set four, 25-18, and the match, 3-1.
