Women's Basketball to Face Off Against Jacksonville at Home

MIAMI - FIU Women's Basketball will face off against Jacksonville in their third game of the season on November 13 at 7 p.m. at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.

FIU (1-1) is coming off a loss to Abilene Christian last Friday night, their first of two matchups this season. 

The Panthers had five players score in double-digits on the night, led by newcomer Parris Atkins with 18 points and six rebounds, to go along with two steals. Senior Tanajah Hayes had a career night, putting up 17 points and a career-high nine steals in the contest. 

Senior Bineta Diatta scored 12 points on an efficient 5-7 shooting, with junior Angena Belloso also scoring 12 to go along with three rebounds and one steal. Sophomore Judit Valero Rodriguez was the last Panther to score double-digits, ending with 10 on the evening and going 5-6 from the free-throw line.

The game was a back and forth affair, with the Panthers taking the lead late in the fourth quarter after trailing for the majority of the match, but could not hold on, suffering their first loss of the season.

SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS

Jacksonville (0-1) is coming off a loss to Miami in their first game of the season, 74-71. Last season, the Dolphins went 11-20 in the regular season and 7-10 in ASUN play, winning their first matchup of their conference tournament against Bellarmine, 79-62, before falling to Florida Gulf Coast in the second round.

Jacksonville returns two of their top three scorers from the 2023-24 campaign in Edyn Battle and Saniyah Craig. The guard Eden led the ASUN with 20.4 points per game last season, coming in fourth in the conference in field goal percentage at 43.5%. Forward Saniyah Craig led the charge in the frontcourt, coming in second on the team with 10.1 points per game, leading the team in rebounds with 7.9 rebounds per game. 

The Panthers beat the Dolphins in their only meeting of last season, 88-81. In their last four matchups, the two programs are an even 2-2.
