JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — FIU's volleyball program was defeated in four sets on the road at Jacksonville State in Conference USA (CUSA) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (6-21, 4-10 CUSA) took the opening set over the Gamecocks (8-19, 1-13 CUSA) 25-21, but fell in the next three frames to snap a three-match win streak. Courtney O'Brien and Jillian Huckabey each totaled a team-high 12 kills. Anna Feldkamp added eight along with five blocks.
Cameryn Jones and Madison Morgan also had five blocks each as FIU totaled 13 team blocks while JSU had 10. Savannah Cook totaled 29 assists and Mandi Morioka led the way with 12 digs.
Ahead 16-15 in the first set, the Panthers went on a 5-0 run to take a commanding 21-15 lead. FIU maintained its lead to the finish of the opening frame, securing a 25-21 win.
With FIU down by one at 17-16 in the second set, the Gamecocks ran off seven-straight to build a 24-16 advantage. JSU ended the frame with a kill, taking the second 25-17.
In the third, the Gamecocks built a large, early lead and used that to defeat FIU 25-16.
Set four was the most back-and-forth of the day as the Panthers led 13-9 after a Huckabey service ace. With FIU up 24-21 in the frame, JSU showed its fight with a 6-1 run to take the set, 27-25, and the match 3-1. The win for the Gamecocks is their first in CUSA play.

FIU will take a break from its CUSA slate with a mid-week match against FGCU at home on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.
