Swim & Dive Start Strong on Day 1 of Purdue Invitational

200-free relay team earns first-place finish

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The FIU women's swimming and diving program wrapped up a strong first day at the Purdue Invitational, securing second place with 196 points at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.
 
The Panthers delivered standout performances on Thursday, highlighted by six top-five finishes and a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
The relay team of Oumy Diop, Tawannah McLemore, Diana Santamaria, and Jessica Shpilko captured the top spot with an impressive time of 1:30.31.
 
In the 50-yard freestyle, FIU dominated the sprint event with McLemore, Shpilko, and Santamaria all earning top-four finishes. Shpilko and Santamaria tied with a time of 22.82, while McLemore, a freshman, clocked in at 22.86 for fourth place. Imara-Bella Thorpe also excelled, winning the C-final with a time of 23.73.
 
Nicole Frank added to the Panthers' success in the 200-yard individual medley, placing third with a time of 1:59.52—the seventh-fastest in program history.
 
In the 500-yard freestyle, junior Harliai Curthoys-Davies finished second in the B-final with a time of 4:58.37, while Gabrielle Puryear-Lynch claimed third (5:00.47) and sophomore Sophie Kiryk placed seventh (5:04.62). Freshman Claudia Frasca impressed in the C-final, taking first with a time of 5:02.69.
 
On the diving boards, FIU had four athletes competing in the 3-meter final. Av Osero led the Panthers with a fourth-place finish, scoring 305.18 to earn a zone cut and record the eighth-highest mark in program history.
 
Kristina Keenan followed in sixth with a score of 292.20, also earning a zone cut. Freshman Brooke Megdall achieved a lifetime best score of 287.18, finishing seventh and securing her first career zone cut.
