FIU played their best defense of the season when it mattered most, giving up just one shot and one shot on goal the entire 90 minutes, both of which is a season-low for the one-seed Panthers in a 2-0 victory over Middle Tennessee in the CUSA Women's Soccer Championships Semifinals.
The Panthers took the lead at the 23:11 mark when a corner kick from Noemi Paquin found its way into the box, headed by Delinda Sehlin to Catherine Rapp, who finished the goal for her third of the year, giving FIU a 1-0 lead which they would take into the half.
FIU kept up the strong defense, while adding on an insurance goal late in the second half when Delinda Sehlin fed a perfect ball from the midfield to Noemi Paquin on Middle Tennessee's third of the field, who finished the score for her 15th of the year. The assist was the second of the game and year for Sehlin.
The goal from Paquin placed her at fifth all-time in program history in most goals scored in a single season, and with 27 career goals, she is now sixth all time in career goals in FIU Women's Soccer history.
It is the first win in the CUSA Conference Tournament in program history for the Panthers, as well as their first berth in the championship match.
