MIAMI – Women's soccer (1-3-3) drops its contest against cross-town rival Miami (5-1-1), 1-0.
Miami came out attacking in the first half, recording 10 shots and four shots on goal through the opening 45 minutes. However, the Hurricanes were unable to find the back of the net. The Panthers had five shots and one shot on goal of their own, but neither team was able to break through as the match remained scoreless heading into halftime.
The second half followed a similar script, with both teams creating opportunities but struggling to capitalize.
The deciding goal came with just 13 seconds left in the contest after an FIU red card resulted in a Miami free kick. The Hurricanes were able to capitalize, sending a cross into the box that was followed by a header into the goal to put Miami up 1-0.
Miami finished the match with 23 shots and 10 shots on goal, while the Panthers recorded 11 shots and three shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Valery Restrepo racked up a career-high nine saves in the match.

The Panthers will look to bounce back when they head up to DeLand for a matchup at Stetson on Thursday, September 10 at 7 p.m.
