DELAND, Fla. — Women's soccer (2-3-3) completes their first shutout victory of the season with a 3-0 result on Friday morning at Stetson (0-6). Three different Panthers scored in the contest, with two earning their first FIU goals.
The Panthers took control early, with freshman
Madeline Oliver netting FIU's first goal of the contest in the 11th minute, putting the Panthers up, 1-0. The goal proved to be the defender's second of the season, her first coming in a draw against North Florida.
It took less than five minutes for FIU to extend its lead to 2-0, with senior
Adria Kitzinger scoring her first goal in a Panther uniform at the 15:04 mark, assisted by freshman
Yuna Miyazaki's first career assist.
The Panthers waited for the last seconds of the first half to extend their lead further. In the 45th minute, redshirt freshman
Valentina Zorrilla scored her first goal of her career, assisted by senior
Maya Maxwell's third assist of the season, sending FIU into the half with a 3-0 advantage.
The second half proved to be a stagnant affair, with FIU holding on to complete the shutout.
The Panthers' defense was stout for the entirety of the match, not allowing a single shot on goal on just six shots allowed in the match en route to their first shutout result of the season.
