MIAMI — Women's soccer (3-3-3) wins their second contest in a row with a victory over Jacksonville (1-3-2) on Sunday afternoon, 1-0.
The match remained scoreless through the majority of the opening half, as both teams created opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net.
The scoring finally opened in the waning seconds of the first half, when freshman Yuzu Tanida found the back of the net directly off her own corner kick in the 45th minute. The goal moved Tanida into the team lead with three goals through nine non-conference matches.
Following a lengthy rain delay, the second half unfolded much like the first, with both sides searching for a breakthrough but neither able to add to the scoreline. The Panthers ultimately held on for a 1-0 victory.
FIU recorded 10 shots in the match, including three on goal. Tanida led the Panthers with four shots and one shot on target, while sophomore Maria Lucia Dogliani added two shots. Freshman Kelsi Hart and redshirt senior Mona Gellert each recorded one shot on goal.
Defensively, the Panthers were once again outstanding, holding their opponent without a shot on goal to earn their second consecutive shutout.
