Swimming & Diving Sits in First Place After Day Two of AAC Championships

Chue secured a program record in the 200 IM

DALLAS, Texas - The FIU swimming and diving program closed out day two strong holding a first place lead with an 40 point edge at the AAC Championships

The Panthers secured four medals including a gold, two bronzes, and a silver to round out the night.

Day two's notable performance came in the 200 IM as senior Christie Chue secured a gold medal with a time of 1:57.21. In addition, Chue recored a program record time in the IM, taking down Johanna Gustafsdottir's time of (1:57.33) in 2015. The Singapore swimmer has now repeated as a winner in the 200 IM race at the AAC Championships. 

Nicole Frank Rodriguez took home third in the 200 IM, logging a time of 1:58.85 for her second medal of the Championships thus far.

In the 50-free, freshman Diana Santamaria came away with a third place finish, notching her first medal of her collegiate clocking in at 22.59

The Panthers closed out the night on the podium as the relay team of Oumy Diop, Ana Luiza Daisson, Diana Santamaria, and Jessica Shpilko earned silver in the 200 free relay for a time of 1:31.42. This is FIU's third medal as a relay team aking gold yesterday night in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

On the boards, Paige Burrell and Ruska Lehtonen both qualified for the three-meter diving with Burrell earning fourth place for a score of 301.00.
