Women's Hoops falls to Jacksonville State

Four Panthers score in double-digits, led by Mya Kone's 17 points

Miami, Fla  — The FIU Women's Basketball Team falls to Jacksonville State 80-63.

Jax State (10-15, 5-8 CUSA) jumped out to an early lead, going on a 14-2 run over the first 5:41 of the game. The Panthers (18-9, 9-4 CUSA) battled back, going on an 8-0 run themselves from 5:27-2:30 in the first. Sophomore Mya Kone led the comeback, putting up 12 in the first quarter, going 4-5 from the field and 3-4 from three to bring the Panthers back within striking distance. FIU trailed 19-18 after the first quarter. 

The second quarter proved to be a back and forth affair, with FIU scoring 15 in the quarter and the Gamecocks scoring 14. The Panthers spread the ball around well, with five Panthers putting up points in the quarter before the half, shooting 58.3% as a team in the period. The two teams sat deadlocked at 33 at the end of the first half.

JSU shot the ball well in the second half, going 42.6% from the field and 33.3% from deep, putting up 47 points in the half, leading to FIU's second loss in a row.

Four Panthers put up double-digits in the game, led by Mya Kone's 17 points. The 6'2 guard also came down with 12 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. Sophomore Angena Belloso ended the afternoon with 12, with 10 of her points coming in the second half. She complimented her scoring with three assists and three rebounds. A pair of graduate students in Kaliah Henderson and Courtney Prenger ended the game with 11. Henderson had nine rebounds, coming one shy of a double-double, while Prenger went 5-5 in the game along with a block and a steal.

FIU will play their next game in one week, traveling to Bowling Green to take on Western Kentucky on Saturday, March 2nd at 2:00 p.m. ET.
