MIAMI — FIU men's basketball's Arturo Dean and Javaunte Hawkins were both honored by Conference USA (CUSA) as recipients of All-CUSA status, as announced by the league office on Monday morning.
Dean was named to the All-CUSA Third Team and CUSA's All-Defense Team while Hawkins earned an Honorable Mention nod, as voted on by the league's coaches and media.
Dean, a sophomore guard from Miami, continues to shine in his second season as a Panther, leading FIU in rebounds, assists, steals and minutes played. He ranks third in CUSA with 4.1 assists per game and is inside the top-15 in both scoring and rebounding.
The Putnam Science Academy prep has shown a special prowess on the defensive end, racking up a CUSA-best 98 steals on the season thus far. He is currently the NCAA's leader in total steals and steals per game, a status he has held for much of the 2023-24 season. Dean is also approaching Brian Beard Jr.'s FIU single season record of 100 steals, set during the 2018-19 season.
Hawkins has enjoyed a breakout senior season with career-highs in all major statistical categories. The Lee's Summit, Mo. native leads the Panthers with 13.1 ppg and sits 12th in CUSA in scoring. Hawkins has been one of the league's top sharpshooters from deep this season, ranking inside the top-five in three-point percentage and three-point field goals per game.
The senior guard is now the all-time career record-holder for three pointers made at FIU with 203 made threes. Additionally, his 81 three-pointers this season are the fourth-most in a season in Panther history.
For Dean, he follows up his Freshman of the Year award from 2022-23 with his first career All-CUSA honor. He also earns his second-consecutive selection to the All-Defense team.
Hawkins earns his first career honor following a decorated career as a Panther.
