Swimmers Pace for Personal Bests: Sits in Fifth Place After Day One of CSCAA NICs

OCALA, Fla.  - The FIU women's swimmers recorded four personal bests on day one of the CSCAA NICs from the Florids FAST Aquatic Center, placing fifth overall with 140.5 points.

FIU sits ahead of notable Power-5 programs (Illinois, 114), (BYU, 75.5), and (Iowa, 61).

Freshman Diana Santamaria had a strong day, taking home second in the 50 backstroke for a time of 24.58, a personal best for the Malaga, Spain native.

In the 50 butterfly, junior Jessica Shpilko notched a fifth-place finish, logging a personal best of 24.36. She followed up, finishing fourth in the B-Final of the 50 freestyle (23.25)

Nicole Frank competed in the 200 IM, finishing out for an eighth place spot for a time of 2:01.48/

Emma Becker placed fifth in the A-Final for the 50 breaststroke with a personal best time of 28.25, while Ingrid Huszar placed first in the B-Final adding a 28.38 mark, a personal best for the sophomore.

FIU capped the opening day with a seventh-place finish in the 400 medley relay, as the team of Becker, Ana Luiza Daisson, Shpilko, and Santamaria swam a time of 3:36.45.

The Panthers placed 15th in the 200 free relay as Becker, Harliai Curthoys-Davies, Luiza Daisson, and Shpilko recorded a time of 1:33.22

UP NEXT

The swimmers hit the water again on Friday for day two beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET for prelims, followed by the finals session at 6 p.m.
