MIAMI – The FIU softball team dropped a 6-0 decision in a midweek non-conference matchup with Florida Atlantic on Tuesday night at Felsberg Field in Miami.
Florida Atlantic (24-7) took control early as it posted runs in four of the first five innings. The Owls scored a pair of runs in the second and fourth and single tallies in the first and fifth innings.
The Panthers (13-18) best chance came in the bottom of the second when they loaded the bases with two outs but they came away without any runs when freshman
Zamya McBurrows grounded out to second.
FIU finished the game with five hits – all singles. Freshman
Kally Meredith paced the Panthers with a pair of knocks.
FAU was led in the victory by Kiley Channell – who finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBI.
Florida Atlantic starting pitcher Trini Scholotterbeck (11-2) earned the complete-game shutout victory by limiting the Panthers to five hits over seven innings. She struck out two and walked two.

Alina Varga (3-5) took the loss after allowing five runs and seven hits over 3.2 innings.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will enjoy a weekend off before returning to action on Thursday, March 28 for the opening game of a three-game Conference USA set at Middle Tennessee.
First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
