Ashton Lansdell hit a grand slam and finished with a career-best six RBI and fellow junior
Alina Varga recorded her second straight complete-game shutout as the FIU softball team rolled to a 9-0 victory in five innings over North Dakota in the first of two against the Hawks on Saturday at Felsberg Field.
Lansdell opened the game's scoring in the bottom of the first with a groundout hat scored
Kally Meredith, making the score 1-0.
Meredith increased the margin to 3-0 with a two-run, inside the park home run to open a four-run third. Lansdell added her second RBI with a single and
Casey Goguts upped the margin to 5-0 with a run-scoring groundout.
Lansdell launched her third home run in the last four days in the top of the fifth after the Panthers loaded the bases with two outs. The grand slam increased the lead to 9-0.
FIU starting pitcher Varga (2-1) tossed a complete-game shutout in her second consecutive start. She went five innings and limited North Dakota to three hits. She struck out four and walked two.
