Troy, Ala. — The FIU Women's Basketball Team falls in the second round of the WNIT to Troy University, 92-62.
The first quarter started out as a back and forth affair, with both teams playing fast and scoring in bunches. Graduate student Courtney Prenger had a stellar day in the final game of her career, scoring FIU's first 13 points of the game. The forward scored a career-high, ending the game with 22 points on 9-16 shooting and 4-5 from the charity stripe. The Ohio native secured three rebounds, one assist and one steal to round out her career night. FIU trailed going into the second quarter 25-22.
The track event continued in the next frame, with both teams playing fast and once again scoring back and forth the entire second quarter. Three players scored four points for the Panthers, as the team went into the half trailing, 43-34.
Troy came out of the half hot, shooting 73.3% from the field and scoring 27 points in the quarter. FIU trailed by 70-41 going into the final frame. In the fourth quarter FIU put up 21 points on a 53.8% field goal percentage. Five players scored in the final 10 minutes for the Panthers, with sophomore Mya Kone leading the charge with six points. The guard put up 13 points in the game and grabbed 15 rebounds, good for her ninth double-double of the year.
Sophomore Angena Belloso was the only other Panther to put up double-digits on the evening, scoring 12 points while securing two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
The 2023-2024 Panthers had a fantastic season, with the most wins since the 2011-2012 season, most conference wins since joining CUSA, their highest seeding in CUSA in program history and had seven FIU members honored in the CUSA postseason awards.
