MIAMI - The FIU baseball program secured the series split of the Seton Hall Pirates holding on for a 4-3 victory Monday night from FIU Baseball Stadium.
For a second straight day, the Panthers pitching made strides, allowing just two earned runs collectively all night as a staff.
Cameron Knox made his second start of the season Monday, giving up an earned run over four innings of work.
Jackson Ritchey worked an inning, allowing a run in the fifth. Southpaw
David Eckaus picked up his first collegiate career win, shutting down the Pirates lineup posting 2.2 innings of work on just one hit allowed and struck out four in the middle innings.
Orlando Hernandez came in to work for a second straight game, this time notching his second save of the season over 1.1 innings and fired a pair of punchouts.
Seton Hall struck first on a solo shot in the first inning, before
Ryne Guida tied up the ballgame on a sacrifice fly to deep center for his team-leading 14th RBI of the season, scoring
Brylan West.
Four batters later, FIU had the bases loaded as
Chase Engelhard worked a two-out RBI walk to put FIU up a run, 2-1.
The Panthers extended on their scoring in the third as
Alex Ulloa singled up the middle for a RBI knock, bringing home
Kishon Frett.
Seton Hall cut the deficit to a run in the fifth, before a
Jeff Liquori sacrifice fly put the Panthers up 4-2 after five innings.
The Pirates kept it close with a RBI single in the eighth, making it a one-run affair to the final frame as Hernandez shut the door.
Offensively, Frett notched a second straight game with a multi-hit effort, upping his batting average to .341.
