BOCA RATON, Fla – FIU pitcher
Logan Runde held the Florida Atlantic lineup to one earned run over his first four innings, yet the Panthers fell in a 4-1 decision on Friday night from Boca Raton to open up a three-game series.
In his second career start, the Peosta, Iowa native limited the Owls to three hits and struck out a pair.
Florida Atlantic took the lead in the first on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andrew McKenna, before adding their second run in the fourth on a fielders choice.
In the fifth, the Panthers cut the deficit in half as catcher
Brendan Roney logged his first homer of the season for a solo shot to left field.
The Owls tacked on insurance in the sixth on a solo shot from John Schroder.
FIU had a chance to rally in the eight getting the first three guys on bases to load them with nobody out. The Panthers were unable to cash in on the runners, keeping the game at a 3-1 score.
Florida Atlantic brought home a run on RBI single in the bottom half before closing out for a 4-1 win.
On the mound, reliever
David Eckaus had a strong outing, going three innings of work, allowing an earned run with two strikeouts.
Bryce Greene worked the eighth, allowing a run on two punchouts.
