Baseball Secures Midweek Shutout Victory vs Florida Atlantic

It marks the first shutout win of the season

MIAMI - For the first time this season, the FIU baseball program posted a shutout victory, taking down the Florida Atlantic Owls, 1-0 on Tuesday night from FIU Baseball Stadium.

It marks the first shutout win for FIU since March 8, 2023 in a 5-0 victory at home vs the Stetson Hatters. In addition, it is the first shutout against Florida Atlantic since April 18, 2014 in a 6-0 win from FIU Baseball Stadium.

The Panthers held the Owls to just four hits and issued just one walk all night long while the pitchers fired 11 punchouts.

Owen Puk made the midweek start, bouncing back with three innings on just one hit allowed and three strikeouts. "He really went out there and dominated, really looking forward at this outing and hoping it propels him in the last third of the season," head coach Rich Witten said.

Jackson Ritchey tied his season-best in innings pitched, giving up no earned runs in three innings of work.

Lefty Jaydon Bishop worked a scoreless seventh before handing the ball over to Zac Lampton. The redshirt senior notched his second save of the season in a pair of innings with five strikeouts. In his past ten innings pitched, Lampton has allowed just one earned run over that span.

"Zac has been in a groove lately…he is totally in command of his stuff and his arsenal when he is on the mound," Witten said. He is very confident and he is pitching in a rhythm.

The lone run for FIU came in the sixth as Jeff Liquori drove home his team-leading 37th RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly. In addition, Ryne Guida extended his on-base streak to 22 games with a walk. Matthew Corpas recorded his first multi-hit effort of the season with a pair of hits.
