MIAMI — FIU's 27th-ranked women's tennis program secured the 2024 Conference USA (CUSA) Championship with a 4-1 win over Liberty on Sunday at the PayCargo Tennis Center.
The Panthers completed their quest for back-to-back CUSA Championships, a first for the program. Overall, FIU wins its third CUSA title, adding the 2024 crown to those from 2018 and 2023.
For the second straight year and 13th time in program history, the Panthers will be in the NCAA Tournament as the automatic bid from CUSA. FIU will learn its matchup in the NCAA Tournament during the NCAA Selection Show, of which will be on Monday, April 29 on NCAA.com.
In the match, FIU won the doubles points with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. After two singles victories for the Panthers, Oyinlomo Quadre clinched the title for the Panthers at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win.
Quadre and Katerina Mandelkova teamed up to clinch FIU's doubles point, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Ekaterina Khairutdinova and Salma Loudili defeated their competition, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles a short time earlier.
In singles, Valery Gynina delivered a dominant 6-2, 6-1 performance at No. 3 singles to give the Panthers a 2-0 match lead. Khairutdinova put FIU up 3-0 with a gritty 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
Following a win at No. 6 singles for Liberty, Quadre erased deficits in both sets to clinch the match 4-1.
