DALLAS, Texas. — The FIU baseball program will be the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Conference USA (CUSA) Baseball Championship, as announced by the league office on Saturday evening.
The sixth-seeded Panthers (26-28, 11-13 CUSA) will face off with the three-seeded Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (34-20, 15-9 CUSA) on the morning of Wednesday, May 22 at 10 a.m. ET at the J. C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. The two sides played a road series in Bowling Green, Kentucky with the Panthers securing the series including a run-rule 11-1 win on Friday, March 22.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams in the Conference USA Championships.
The winner of FIU/Western Kentucky will take on the winner of second-seeded Dallas Baptist and seven-seeded New Mexico State on Thursday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
In addition, opening round games include one-seeded Louisiana Tech taking on eight-seeded Middle Tennessee, while four-seeded Sam Houston faces five-seeded Liberty.
All games prior to the championship will appear on ESPN+, while the championship game will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, May 26 at 2 p.m. ET.
The Panthers will make their sixth appearance in the CUSA Championship and their first time qualifying for the tournament since 2018. FIU won the tournament in 2015, eventually heading to the Coral Gables Regional that same season.
