MIAMI –
Cooper Rasmussen delivered a walk-off home run Saturday evening to lift FIU to a 4-3 victory over Kennesaw State, securing the CUSA series win at FIU Baseball Stadium.
In the bottom of the ninth, with one out, Rasmussen worked a full 3-2 count before launching the ninth pitch of the at-bat over the wall for his ninth home run of the season. The walk-off marked FIU's (12-23, 4-10 CUSA) fifth walk-off home run and sixth walk-off victory of the season.
FIU struck first in the second inning, as catcher
Caden Sammler drove in two runs with an RBI single to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
The Panthers added to their advantage in the fourth when
Enrique Alvarez Jr. blasted his first home run of the season, extending the lead to 3-0.
Enrique Sierra Jr. made his second consecutive start, tossing 4.1 innings while allowing one run on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Cooper Foster followed with 1.1 innings of relief, while
Jordan Vargas delivered 2.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
George Adams pitched a clean ninth inning to earn his first win of the season.
Offensively, FIU recorded nine hits, with Alvarez Jr. and Sammler each posting multi-hit performances. Rasmussen extended his on-base streak to 20 games, while
Cole Cleveland and
Samuel Fischer each reached base twice.
Andrew Ildefonso added a hit to extend his hitting streak to seven games.
