Baseballs Falls To Two-Seed Dallas Baptist Thursday in CUSA Championship

FIU looks to continue season in matchup with Western Kentucky on Friday at 5 p.m.

RUSTON, La – The FIU baseball program fell to the two-seeded Dallas Baptist Thursday night in the quarterfinals, losing 8-2 in the CUSA Championship from J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
 
It is the first loss for the Panthers in the Championship as they look to keep their hopes alive on Friday night with a repeat matchup against Western Kentucky at 5 p.m..
 
The Patriots got on the board first to starter Owen Puk with a run scored on a RBI double, before tacking on a pair of runs on a two-run homer stretching their lead to 3-0.
 
In the third, Dallas Baptist made it a 4-0 advantage on a sacrifice fly. After a scoreless fourth and fifth innings, the Patriots put up a four-spot in the sixth on three hits, pushing it to an 8-0 ballgame.
 
The Panthers got on the board into the eighth as Alex Ulloa belted his a two-run homer his 11th of the season.
 
FIU used five pitchers on Thursday night as Puk (0-3) was tagged with the loss, allowing three earned runs in an inning of work. Jaydon Bishop worked 2.1 innings, only giving up one earned run on a hit with three strikeouts. Bryce Greene and Kevin Martin saw action out the pen, while freshman Evan Alwin worked two scoreless frames to close the night.
 
Three Panthers had multi-hit efforts (Armando Becerra, Kishon Frett, and Ulloa). The righty Frett has found his footing offensively with five hits in the first two games of the championship.

UP NEXT
FIU takes on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Friday, May 24 at 5 p.m. in a elimination game. Winner takes on Dallas Baptist on Saturday, May 25 at 9 a.m. It can be streamed on ESPN+.
