MIAMI – The FIU football team garnered a total of 17 selections among 16 players who were named to Phil Steele's 2024 Preseason All-Conference USA squad, which was announced recently.
 
Senior linebacker Reggie Peterson was named to the first-team defense following a junior campaign which saw him start all 12 games and finish with 104 tackles – which marked the 10th best single season total in program history.  Peterson was also recently selected as a first-team preseason All-CUSA honoree by Athlon Sports.
 
Junior Dean Patterson was selected both as a second-team choice at wide receiver and punt returner.  Patterson led Conference USA in punt return average in 2023 in addition to catching 28 passes for 423 yards at receiver.
 
Joining Peterson on the second-team offense was junior offensive tackle Travis Burke, while cornerback Hezekiah Masses and safety JoJo Evans were slotted on the second-team defense.  Long snapper Jackson Lee was recognized as a second-team specialist.
 
Junior running back Shomari Lawrence and sophomore offensive tackle JaDarious Lee were named to the third-team offense and punter Daton Montiel and kick returner Lexington Joseph were selected as third-team specialists.
 
Rounding out the Panthers named to Phil Steele's 2024 Preseason CUSA Team were fourth-team selections Keyone Jenkins (QB), Eric Rivers (WR), Eddie Walls III (DE), Giovanni Davis (DE), Elijah Anderson-Taylor (LB) and Travion Barnes (LB).
 
The Panthers return a total of 17 starters from last season's squad and open the 2024 season on Saturday, August 31 in a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Indiana which will be aired nationally on the Big Ten Network.
