Swim and Dive's Oumy Diop Completes Olympic Debut in 100-meter Butterfly Saturday

Marks highest finish for a Senegalese female swimmer in the 100-butterfly at the summer games.

MIAMI – Oumy Diop of the FIU women's swimming and diving program posted a time of 1:01.82 in the 100-meter butterfly at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Saturday. She posted the highest finish for a Senegalese female swimmer in the 100-butterfly at the summer games.

Diop, competing in her first Olympics representing Senegal, swam in Heat 1 of the women's 100-fly and placed fourth among the group. Overall, Diop placed 27th among 32 contestants in the women's 100-fly and was the second highest finisher of all participants from the continent of Africa.
 
Only the top 16 times from the women's 100-fly butterfly advanced to the semifinal round of the event.
 
Swimmer Nicole Frank is set to grace the Olympic stage next week for FIU as well, with the Panther representing Uruguay in the 200-meter individual medley on Friday, Aug. 2, beginning at 5:14 a.m. ET in Heat 2.
