DeLand, Fla. – FIU women's soccer drops their second contest of the season, falling to Stetson University, 1-0 and dropping their record to 3-2.
FIU had their chances in the first half, but despite nine shots and four shots on goal in the first 45 minutes, the Panthers and Hatters went into the break deadlocked at 0-0. Senior Noemi Paquin led the charge with three shots and two shots on goal in the opening frame.
The score remained tied until early in the second half, when Stetson hit the back of the net for the first score of the game. The Panthers continued to have chances, finishing the final 45 minutes with four shots and one shot on goal. The shot on goal came from Hanako Fuiji, who attempted to tie the game with her first attempt of the match at the 89:30 mark, but was saved by the Hatters.
Despite the low-scoring effort, both teams were able to get off double digits shots in the match tonight, with FIU shooting 13 times to Stetson's 12. Sophomore Montelene Dymond led the Panthers with four shots, while Noemi Paquin and junior Catherine Rapp both had three. Noemi Paquin led the squad with two shots on goal, while Catherine Rapp and junior Ashly Martinez both ended the match with one a piece.
The Hatters played good defense when it mattered most, led by the last line of defense, goalkeeper Ashleigh Wise, who ended with five saves on the evening.
Panthers' sophomore goalkeeper Valery Restrepo had another good game despite the one goal allowed. Last week's CUSA Goalkeeper of the Week saw 12 shots, ending with two saves in 90 minutes played.
