MIAMI – FIU Athletics is deeply saddened by the passing of former men's soccer goalkeeper Chris Antonopoulos, who passed away on Monday, Jan. 27.
Antonopoulos was a four-year starter for the Panthers from 1987 to 1990, appearing in 44 matches with 36 starts in goal. The Miami, Fla., native recorded 134 career saves, including a season-high 79 saves in 1990. His career total remains among the top 10 in program history.
After his collegiate career, Antonopoulos signed a professional contract with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in 1993. Beyond the professional ranks, Antonopoulos represented the United States on the Men's National Beach Soccer Team from 2002 to 2006, serving as both a goalkeeper and assistant coach.
